About the authors

Adnan Morshed is an architect, architectural historian, and urbanist. He received his Doctorate and Master’s in Architecture from MIT, and Bachelor’s from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, where he also taught. Currently, he teaches at the School of Architecture and Planning, The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. He is the author of several books on architecture, and also frequently contributes opeds to various newspapers and online forums. He instructed courses in the Fundamentals of Structures and The History and Theory of Architecture and Architectural Design.

Nesfun Nahar is an architect and urbanist. She began her Doctorate degree research on Architectural Modernism at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), in Dhaka, where she is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture.
Nahar earned a Master’s degree in Housing and Urbanism from the Architectural Association, in London, and a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from BUET. She has been a lecturer at BRAC University’s Department of Architecture, also in Dhaka, for 11 years. Nahar took part in various seminars, conferences, and workshops and was a jury member for various student charettes.

I found the descriptions and drawings to be very clear providing an interesting framework to understand the architecture and the city as a whole. The book covers a wide range of projects over many centuries of the city’s history allowing for the contemporary work to sit in an appropriate historic context. Highly recommended!
