A City of Professions

By Jordi Ludevid
A City of Professions intends to take part in the current international debate on the present and future of the professions, a debate sparked by D&R Susskind (Oxford Press, 2015) with his book The Future of the Professions, which was echoed by the American psychologist Howard Gardner from Harvard University. A debate that is really about the future of our society. By moving closer to Howard Gardner and away from the Susskinds, A City of Professions proposes a radical regeneration of the whole of the professional world, focusing on its links with cities, and promoting the new social pact currently underway.
Reviews
Jordi Ludevid’s book is an unpublished and original contribution to the study of professionalism as the constitutive virtue of a new, demanding citizenry committed to the needs of our time. Underpinned by the exercise of architecture as a technical, artistic and reflective activity, Ciudad de Profesiones proposes understanding professional excellence as a contribution and service to the city, the scene of a public ethos. An essential text precisely now that the coronavirus crisis forces us to also rethink the missions of professional life.
